Jobs & Occupations
PRESENT & PAST OCCUPATIONS
INTRODUCTION
What do you do? Are you a student?
Well, I'm an English teacher now, but I used to be a student before.
Many people are retired now, but used to have another job before. We all have been students or learners before too, but continue learning when we are adults.
This is how we can speak about this topic in English.
GRAMMAR NOTE
Speaking about jobs and occupations
The most basic way to speak about jobs & occupations in English is with the verb TO BE + a / an + NOMBRE DE LA PROFESIÓN (sustantivo)..
Ej: She's a lawyer.
He's an accountant.
They're nurses.
También se puede usar la expresión WORK AS + a / an para hablar de nuestra profesión en presente simple y sin usar el verbo TO BE.
She's a lawyer / She works as a lawyer
I'm retired.
He's unemployed.
I was a doctor but now I'm retired.
They were unemployed.
I USED TO be a teacher (Solía ser profesor / trabajaba de profesor / Era profesor...)
Con esta estructura luego se sigue usando el verbo TO BE + A/AN + SUSTANTIVO DE PROFESIÓN.
USED TO es igual para todas las personas:
I used to be a teacher.
You used to be a student.
He used to be unemployed.
She used to be an accountant.
We used to be students.
You used to be pilots.
They used to be nurses.
